A lamp with a knuckle, not a spring.
Four years in the workshop, and the only part we have never had to replace is the one everybody else puts a spring in.
Every task lamp we owned had the same fault. The spring holding the arm up is slowly losing the argument with gravity, and somewhere around the fourth year the head starts creeping down the page while you are still working under it.
Pell has no spring. The arm turns on a friction knuckle machined from one piece of steel, and you set it by hand the way you set a microscope. It stays where you put it. When it finally wears, you tighten one screw with the key taped inside the base.
